EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
U.S. citizen and current legal resident of Florida for at least the past one year
Majoring in Fine Arts (Visual and Performing Arts: Painting, Illustration, Sculpture, Design, Music, Dance, Theater, Creative Writing, Photography, Digital Art, Motion Design, Film, Architecture, etc.) in a U.S. College or University
Exemplary artistic talent
Established financial need
Documented academic accomplishments
Clear professional career goals in the arts
Evidence of extracurricular activities – in school and in the community
Evidence of honors – in school and from the community
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND CHECK OFF THESE REQUIREMENTS ON THE ATTACHED CHECKLIST AS YOU COMPLETE YOUR APPLICATION.
Accurate and complete responses to all questions are required. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Please submit your completed application form along with:
A flash drive OR link to an internet site (YouTube, Soundcloud, Vimeo, school website or other site) OR DVD/CD demonstrating your talent. Data Formats may be .jpg, .gif, .txt, .doc, .pdf, .pptx, MOV, MP4 (MPEG4), AVI, WMV, FLV.
A written description to accompany the flash drive or link describing the art submitted in the application.
Three (3) current and original letters of reference relating to your talent, academic ability, good character and other personal attributes. Each letter of reference must be in separate sealed envelope, on official letterhead. If the reference is not on a letterhead, please include a contact number. Use academic advisers, teachers, professors (some employers if they know of your artistic talent.) Do not use family or friends.
A separate essay (written in your own words) regarding the area of your artistic talent, your dedication to education to enhance your artistic talent and your life in general. Indicate your career aspirations in the arts at present, and your career goals in the arts in the future.
A copy of Pages 1 & 2 ONLY from your Federal Income Tax Form 1040 or, your parent (s) Federal Income Tax Form1040 for the past year—for each parent if filed separately. Use which ever form is most current and applicable.
If you are a high school senior: Transcripts of your grades for the past two years. The transcripts must be originals, with the school imprint, and in a sealed envelope.
If you are presently an Arts Advocates: Fine Arts Society Scholar: Transcripts of your college grades for the past year. The transcripts must be original, with school imprint, and in a sealed envelope.
If you are presently in a school of higher education, but not a current Arts Advocates: Fine Arts Society Scholar: Transcripts for all high school and college courses taken to date. These transcripts must be originals with school imprints, and in a sealed envelope.
For Performing Arts Applicants: Submit 2-3 performance pieces up to 3 minutes each. Solo performances are preferred, but if performing with a group, please identify yourself in the description and also include at least 1 minute of solo performance. If a vocal performance, please check sound quality to be sure your voice is clearly heard above the music and include at least a portion sung a cappella. A close up recording of the performance is preferred to long lens view from back of theater. Please also indicate if you choreographed, wrote lyrics or composed the music in your description.
For Visual Arts Applicants: Include at least 2 works that have been completed in the current school year and up to 7 pieces total. Note dates of when pieces were completed in your description of each work.
For Creative Writing Applicants: Submit 2-3 samples of writing with descriptions of each and dates completed.
Applications will not be accepted if postmarked after March 1 of the application year.
To confirm our timely receipt of your Application, monitor your delivery tracking number.
We handle all information received in strictest confidence. Your information will be disclosed only to members of the Scholarship Committee in their direct responsibility in the evaluation of your qualification for a Arts Advocates: Fine Arts Society Scholarship Award. No material submitted will be returned.
