Colored Pencils Blooming on Black Paper

Cost: $100 which includes black paper
There will be a 30-45 minute break for lunch; please bring a brown bag lunch.
Description: Florida is known for its kaleidoscope of colors and transcendent play of light. Many artists, including the Highwaymen (a group of African American painters who combed the landscapes chasing beauty and captivating scenes), found their inspiration in the Florida flora. In this workshop with Alexandria Lillis, you will learn to combine the stark drama of black paper with the brilliance of colored pencil. Students will be introduced to the techniques and creative possibilities of working in a classical medium known for its precision. Through a detailed presentation of materials and approaches, students will work on their own piece with 1:1 support from the instructor. By the end of the day each student will have completed a full color work of art, gained an understanding of how to use colored pencils, and have increased awareness of design principles. All skill levels welcome.
Materials: Please bring Prismacolor pencils in a set of 12 or more and a white eraser. Can be purchased at Michaels, Art and Frame, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Amazon.
Instructor will provide fresh flowers for drawing inspiration. Students are welcome to bring photos as well.
