Chartered in 1969, as The Fine Arts Society of Sarasota, Inc., Arts Advocates is a not-for-profit, tax exempt organization dedicated to inspiring creativity, advancing education and connecting the community to the arts.
As an organization with a philanthropic purpose, over one million dollars has been given to fund scholarships, grants and community outreach.
Each year, scholarships are awarded to talented students specializing in all areas of the arts including music, theatre, architecture, painting and dance. Grants are awarded to art-related organizations such as the opera, the orchestra and public television. The newly launched "Speaking of The Arts..." lecture series was recently developed to bring internationally known leaders in all fields of the arts to enrich the lives of residents and visitors.
