For “Voices That Shape Sarasota: Journalism, Justice, and Local Truths,” Carrie Seidman will be interviewed by Nanette Crist, exploring the intersection of reporting, community impact, and the pursuit of local truth.

Carrie is a seasoned journalist who has been a staff writer for The New York Times, The Los Angeles Herald Examiner, and Sarasota Herald-Tribune, among others. She’s the founder of FACEing Mental Illness, a multimedia project that amplifies voices and art from individuals with mental health experiences. Her platform includes a newsletter, a podcast, and community events (visit faceingmi.substack.com).

Carrie hosts “Talk of the Town” on Sarasota’s WSLR radio, a live weekly roundtable featuring politicians, activists, journalists, and scholars discussing local issues. She’s also authored two personal books: A Place at the Table and Facing Mental Illness: The Art of Acceptance.

A retired lawyer, Nanette Crist worked as a columnist for the Charlotte County edition of Florida Weekly while living in Punta Gorda. She quickly discovered how much fun it is to talk with people about their lives and experiences. In Sarasota, Nanette has interviewed nationally known playwrights, including Lauren Gunderson and Bess Wohl, in connection with Urbanite Theatre’s Modern Works Festival. Nanette also participated in Arts Advocates’ Art Talk series, interviewing artists Truman Adams, Patricia Anderson, and Chalk Festival founder Denise Kowal.
